Magie the Animal Trainer is an original issue in the McClelland Children's Circus collection based on the original artwork of acclaimed child portraitist John McClelland and produced by Reco International under the hallmark of the Knowles China Company. She has vivid blue painted eyes and stands, from bright red Mary Jane shoe to top of head, approximately 12 inches tall. She comes with a stand, the base of which is an approximately 6 inch diameter ring in the circus, with painted and textured "sand". The two resin kittens are of course included -- they are part of the act and elicit lots of unexpected laughter from the crowd! Maggie holds her training hoop and string "whip". Her tights are hand-painted.

John McClelland is a Georgia born artist who studied art in Sarasota, Florida, home of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. He would sketch the circus performers and the animals under the tutelage of the great portraitist Jerry Farnsworth. McClelland's work is seen in magazines, collectors plates, and in these dolls for the first time, which belong to the legacy of circus dolls dating back to the turn of the 20th century when A. Schoenhut & Company designed a wooden Humpty Dumpty Circus collection. Two of the featured female dolls in this collection were the Lady Acrobat and the Lady Circus Rider. Our animal trainer certainly aspires to be one of a rare breed of the bravest of female lion tamers!
