My Ship and I is from A Child's Garden of Verses Collection by acclaimed American doll maker, Wendy Lawton. Robert Louis Stevenson's verse recalls the universal dream of children to go a-sailing beyond the confines of their world. This 14 inches tall, fully articulated porcelain and wood boy sits atop a rope twined wood pylon, dreaming of sailing ships and exotic places. The pylon is 4.5 inches by 2.5 inches. He holds his varnished, hand carved oak ship with its jaunty flag and canvas sails. The toy model ship is 4 inches by 5 inches. He wears a child's sailor suit, black stockings and black leather boots, has a brown bob wig and lovely brown eyes. The edition is limited to 500.
Wendy Lawton combined her natural interests in literature and art in her doll-makeing. Her designs have garnered an impressive array of honors including several dolls of the Year awards and Dolls of Excellence awards. She has enjoyed a strong following among doll collectors.
