The Carousel is a extraordinarily creative one of a kind Wax over Porcelain dolls et by Judith and Lucia Friedericy. Each doll is wax over porcelain creation with armature. In comic irony, human figures form the carousel while personified animal figures ride atop them, and can be removed from their backs. The antique type carousel does indeed spin. There is a dapper Giraffe upon a 18th century styled Man, a dressed to the nines Frog upon another Man, and a lace and pompadour Pig upon an equally pompadoured Lady -- one could draw ironic likenesses between the animal figures and the human figures -- a sort of poetry in the round! The Friedericy Family has collaborated in doll making since 1987. First, between brother and sister, John and Lucia Friedericy and then between Lucia and her mother Judith, who took over in 1990 upon John's death. Judith sculpts the dolls heads, hands and feet in porcelain clay. Lucia paints and applies wax to the pieces. She also fashions the bodies and costumes. Each piece is a hand sculpted one of a kind piece. There are no molds. Internationally celebrated, their pieces are highly prized.
