The Dancers are an elegant one of a kind set of ballet dancers by Japanese doll artist Akiko Anzai. These two dolls are entirely separate and therefore can be positioned facing each other or as shown. The arms and gently bent legs, as well as the position of the characters' heads are permanent. The Dancers express motion, and the harmony of dance, and their pose and relationship to each other is essential. The dolls possess facial features that are somehow a combination of Asian and Western appearance. The artist herself was born in Japan but relocated to Texas, and her creations are sometimes perceived by Asians as depicting Americans, and by Americans as depicting Asians. They bridge the two cultures, as well the lines between craft and art.
The male dancer is about 17 inches from foot to top of head, and from foot to top of outstretched arm about 21 inches. They are self standing. These are cloth dolls - fabric sculpts with faces made of cloth with fabric covered paper clay, hand painted.
